The Bike and the Set-up!

After owning a number of more race orientated motocross and enduro bikes, it was a bit of a change to the larger bike designed and set-up for long distance overlander riding. I was lucky to get this bike already equipped and modified for the journey ahead. The bike of choice is a 2007 model Suzuki DR650SE.

Modifications:

  • 32 Litre Safari Fuel Tank
  • B&B Bash Plate
  • B&B rear rack
  • Britannia Composites 'Lynx' twin HID headlight and fairing
  • Customised seat foam
  • 'Evolution' Fat bars with 'Rox Speed FX' risers and HDB clamp/dash
  • 3 x 12 volt merit style power outlets with individual on/off controls
  • Racetech springs front and rear
  • Trailtech speedo
  • Andy Strapz rear and tank panniers ('Beyond' rear rack dry bag)
  • Heavy Duty tubes
  • Barkbusters
Current gearing on the bike is 15t front sprocket with a 44t rear. A new set is awaiting me in Brisbane which will drop the rear sprocket to a 43t.

Camping and other equipment:
  • Beyond Momentum Tent
  • McKinley M38 Light self-inflating mattress
  • Beyond superlight travel sleeping bag
  • 3 peaks microfibre towels
  • Beyond dry bags
  • Hexamine stove with solid fuel tablets
  • 'GSI' Haluute Microdualist cookware
  • Camelback 2l
  • Motorbike clothing - Belstaff adventurer jacket and pants

Electronics:
  • Garmin GPSmap 78 (with Australian and New Zealand Topo maps)
  • GoPro Hero3 black camera
  • Canon EOS 500D DSLR camera
  • Toshiba NB550D netbook
  • Auto chargers (including merit to cigarette socket adapters) and spare batteries for cameras
